Valencia CF now have a new World Cup winner in their history. Guido Rodríguez is now a Valencia CF player and, with this, he joins the long list of Club footballers who have been world champions at some point in their careers.
This prestigious list is made up of almost twenty names. The first was Joel Martins, who won the 1958 World Cup in Sweden with Brazil. From that moment on, he is followed by players of the stature of Rainer Bonhof (Germany, 1974); Mario Alberto Kempes (Argentina, 1978); Leonardo de Araujo, Mazinho, Romario de Souza and Paulo Sergio Sosa (Brazil, 1994); Didier Deschamps (France, 1998); David Villa, David Silva, Juan Mata, Carlos Marchena and Raúl Albiol (Spain, 2010); Mustafi (Germany, 2014); Adil Rami (France, 2018); and Otamendi, De Paul and Guido Rodríguez (Argentina, 2022).
In addition, it is worth noting that former Valencia CF coaches Gennaro Gattuso (Italy, 2006), Carlos Alberto Parreira (Brazil, 1994) and Jorge Valdano (Argentina, 1986) were also World Cup winners with their respective national teams.
